Statement of Faith

The full doctrinal ‘Statement of Faith’ to which all Lighting Fires groups must subscribe articulates the long-held orthodox truths of Christianity, namely:

1. There is one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2. God is sovereign over all things in Heaven and Earth.

3. The highest authority for what we believe and do is God’s Word in the Bible, alive for his people today through the help of the Spirit.

4. The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, but all corrupted by sin.

5. The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ - born of the Virgin Mary, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.

6. Redemption from sin solely through the grace of God, made possible by the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

7. The bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, and His ascension to the right hand of God the Father.

8. The one holy, universal Church which is the Body of Christ, and to which all true believers belong.

9. The work of the Holy Spirit in the believers through the diversity of the Spirit’s gifts, who holds us together in the Body of Christ.

10. The expectation of the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Statement of Lifestyle

We believe that the Bible calls us to a distinctive lifestyle of discipleship. This lifestyle should include amongst other things regular study of the word of God, nurturing a lifestyle of prayer and being actively involved in a local gathering of the church. The moral standards include conducting our affairs (both personally and professionally) honestly, with kindness and an acceptance that the only appropriate place for a sexual relationship is within a marriage between a man and a woman.

We would hope that it is marked by a selfless attitude to money, possessions, time, work, leisure, social action and relationships in the full knowledge and belief that grace and forgiveness are always available to those who humbly seek to align their values with those of God.
